Whetstone

Whetstone Site

At our Whetstone base, we provide a personalised education programmes for Key Stage 4 students who have been permanently excluded from school and who are unlikely to be reintegrated to mainstream school due to continuing behavioural, emotional or social difficulties.   We provide the young people with support and guidance to enable them to make the right choices, achieve their potential and look forward to future opportunities.

Like Meadway, our aim is to support young people who may have disengaged from education to re-discover their interest in learning.  We do this by tailoring each individual’s timetable to suit their needs and interests and offering 1:1 and small group support and mentoring where necessary to build confidence and social skills.

All students study the core subjects of English, Maths, Science and RE and can opt for additional subjects including Art, ICT, Business Studies, DT and PE.  For some students a more vocational pathway is required and the Pavilion works closely with a number of alternative providers to deliver these elements of the curriculum.

The site also offers respite programmes and intervention support for Key Stage 4 students who are at risk of permanent exclusion or who are on extended fixed term exclusions from mainstream school.  Students follow a personalised programme which focuses on the cause of persistent poor behaviour and provides strategies and support to re-engage and re-motivate students in learning.   Our students are sensitive to each other’s needs and support each other to re-engage positively in their education.

Meals for all students in Whetstone are provided in the kitchen area of the Whetstone building.
