English Curriculum

The English Curriculum nurtures its young people to become curious, critical, creative thinkers who can understand and communicate others' views as well as their own.  We ensure that students are exposed to a variety of world views through written and spoken language.  We enable independence by equipping them with the literacy skills they can confidently use in everyday life and all students leave us with a nationally recognised qualification in English.

Science Curriculum

The teaching of science, design technology and horticulture aims to provide our students with the knowledge and practical skills to build an awareness of how science impacts on our everyday life. This provides an engaging curriculum in all areas of the science faculty. Students will develop a positive attitude towards science related subjects, and enable them to perform to the best of their ability.

Students will be guided and encouraged to develop critical approaches to scientific learning through investigation, research and analysis. Our aim is for students to enjoy learning, making relevant progress throughout their time with us

PSHE Curriculum

The Humanities department team at The Pavilion believe that every child has the right to develop and learn within a safe, structured, nurturing and dynamic learning environment. PSHE provides a space for young people to reflect on their own ideas and develop their thoughts about questions of community and identity. The intent of our PSHE curriculum is to deliver a curriculum which is accessible to all and ensures that each of our pupils will know more, remember more and understand more about how to play a positive and successful role within our society, both as a child and as an adult within the future. Our aim is to provide pupils with a knowledge of their world, locally, nationally and globally and give them confidence to tackle many of the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up within this. We aim to provide our children with opportunities for them to learn about rights and responsibilities and appreciate what it means to be a member of a diverse society. Moreover, our pupils are encouraged to develop their sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community.

Art Curriculum

The intention of the arts curriculum is to provide learners with opportunities to develop a greater and more resilient sense of who they are. The curriculum content reflects the cultural diversity of our students and that of the society in which they live.

Through a process of preparation and problem-solving learners develop life skills such as discipline, time management and self-reflection.

A safe and supportive environment promotes creative thinking, exploration and investigation. Learners are encouraged to become motivated and independent in their thinking.

Reference is made to a wide range of artists, musicians and designers. Opportunities to develop an understanding of the context for arts education in the creative industries is provided. Regular visits to galleries and music venues support the work completed in school, furthermore this prepares students for further study or post 16 placements.

Maths Curriculum

Aims/Intent: Our intention is to equip all our students with knowledge and a range of numeracy skills that will enable them to build a positive pathway in the future. In order to achieve this, we follow the Key Stage 3 and 4 national curriculums. We provide a safe environment in which students are supported to take risks with their learning, strengthen their resilience, confidence and successes. We achieve these through a variety of strategies which involve logical thinking, problem-solving and applying previous knowledge. The aim for KS3 students is preparing a foundation for their GCSE in later stage. The aim for year 10 is preparing them for their GCSE success and provide opportunities to secure them with additional Functional Skills Qualifications. Year 11 mainly focuses on their GCSE and the Functional Skills Qualifications through an enriching and engaging scheme of work.
