Animal Care and Careers
This year, students at the Pavilion have the opportunity to achieve a City and Guilds qualification in Animal Care. This is part of the drive to offer a range of vocational subjects. Information about careers is built into each course.
Throughout the Autumn, students have visited Belmont Children’s Farm, May’s Pets in Barnet, The Wild Animal Rescue Service at Trent Park, Pets At Home in Borehamwood, Wildwood [Aquaria] at Crews Hill and Forty Hall Farm, Enfield.
In addition to working towards units in Animal Accommodation, Care and Health and Safety, students have found out about the wide range of careers in Animal Care including; retail, dog grooming, veterinary assistant, educators in animal care, carers for a range of animals including; fish, small mammals, large mammals, birds.
They have met and chatted with a number of professionals who have provided the students with a great deal of useful careers information.
The practical nature of the course has meant that students have a range of work experience opportunities which means that they are better able to make informed decisions about their post 16 pathways.
