Discovery Classroom at Barnet General Hospital
Discovery Classroom provides education for all school-aged (Reception to Y13) pupils admitted to Galaxy Ward in Barnet Hospital. Children are taught either in Discovery Classroom itself, or on the Galaxy ward (at their bedside or in their cubicle) depending on their need.
Discovery Classroom is well resourced, with space for six children seated and natural lighting. There are two PC workstations, with access to online educational resources, and a local colour printer/scanner. Our interactive whiteboard enables small-group teaching using online, video and interactive lesson tools. Display boards and a collection of reading, factual and subject-specific textbooks promote independent learning. On the ward, we have both iPad and laptop facilities, for students wishing to gain access to their own school homework.
We focus on teaching English, Maths and Science, plus History and Art based around our termly topic. For more information on our Hospital Teaching service click here.
The classroom is wheelchair (and even hospital bed) accessible, and secured within the Galaxy ward entry restrictions.
Access to the Barnet General Hospital site is by bus or car. There are numerous bus routes terminating or passing through the Hospital. Visitor parking is extensive, but charged for and often limited during the school day. For a map of the location, click the address block at the bottom left of this page.
Galaxy Ward is on the 2nd floor (one above the main Hospital entrance).
