Jamie's Farm 2016

Jamie's Farm Residential Trip 2016

On 12th December 2016, 9 Year 10 and 11 students took part in a 3 night
residential trip to Jamie's Farm in Wiltshire. Jamie's Farm works with young
people from inner cities to help them develop interpersonal skills such as
developing self-esteem, improving attendance to school or increasing
engagement. These skills can then be exercised in the classroom and also in
the students' day to day lives in the community. Students were responsible
for the daily running of the farm, including tasks such as feeding the pigs,
mucking out the horses and walking the farm dogs as well as taking part in
therapeutic activities such as equine therapy and night time walks in the
countryside. Students also helped prepare all 3 daily meals and ate only
fresh fruit, vegetables and meat. Students expressed how lovely it was to
all sit at the table together for each meal and to spend that time sharing
their experiences with each other. Fizzy drinks, sweets and sugar in general
were not consumed at all for the whole 3 days and this definitely showed in
the students' calm and relaxed behaviour. Well done to everyone who took
part. Hard work but a lot of fun!
