Students Celebrate Work Experience Success!
Every year, the Pavilion offers a one week work experience to Key Stage 4 students. Students are invited to choose from a range of placements. In 2017, these included working at NTS Radio Station, in Shoreditch, a placement at Whizz Kidz wheelchair charity in Victoria, as well as a range of retail, nursery and hairdressing opportunities. We also had a placement in the design department of Durkan as well as an opportunity to work with Exposure producing multi-media texts.
For some students, this can be a very challenging task as they have to cope with the placement not meeting their expectations.
Three students from Year 11 had a particularly successful work experience.
Mia worked at a HOB salon and thoroughly enjoyed her week. She found it hard being on her feet all day, but found the staff very friendly and she liked being part of the team. She is now looking for a Saturday job in this field.
Tommy worked at a branch of Boots. Although he found it quite boring, he not only stuck at it, but made it interesting for himself by focussing on helping customers. Staff at Boots were very impressed by the trouble he took.
Samsam completed her week at Whizz Kidz, a national charity that provides state of the art wheelchairs for young people. She was based in the customer service team but also had a chance to see how other departments ran. She enjoyed being part of the team and being trusted to complete a range of tasks, including dealing with the public.
As a reward for their exceptional efforts and success, we took them for a meal at Nando’s, followed by a game at the bowling alley! A big thank you goes to Hollywood Bowl for contributing a free game to us.
