Next Steps Opportunities
In 2017, Year 11 students were helped and supported to make decisions regarding their future.
In January, Steve Beckles from the Transformation Trust, spent a whole day with our students at Whetstone, as part of the Barclays Lifeskills programme. He delivered humorous, motivational presentations on money skills, confidence building as well as interview skills.
External careers advisors met with every student, individually, to guide them towards the big decisions regarding life after Year 11. Goals were set and staff have been helping students to implement them. In some cases, this has meant researching courses, in others, colleges or apprenticeship schemes. Some have been taken to visit various colleges and a number have been to the open days.
Apprenticeship Week in March was celebrated by encouraging those students who are interested in this pathway, to visit the Apprenticeship Hubs held at Hospitality House in East Finchley and Barnet Southgate College.
Over 40 applications were sent to colleges and sixth forms! Students were beginning to see the consequences of their efforts by being invited for interviews. A number received offers.
It was hoped that by Easter, every student would have applied for the next stage in their learning or skills development.
After Easter, the work continued to make those dreams become reality by studying hard for the qualifications needed to get onto the chosen courses.
